MJ Commodore: English Teacher
Aloha! My name is MJ Commodore and I’m an English Teacher located at Temecula Learning Center. This is my 10th year teaching and 2nd year with SDVS. I’ve taught in myriad of settings from Department of Defense Dependent Schools to comprehensive middle & high schools. I firmly believe I am here to teach the “whole student,” and I, specifically, enjoy the one-on-one interactions with students and seeing them evolve academically as well as personally before my eyes. I have a Single Subject credential in English from California State University, San Marcos, and B.A. in English from University of Louisville. I live in Temecula with my husband, two children, and two Yorkie dogs. I am a self-proclaimed foodie who loves the experience of food from shopping and cooking to eating. In my spare time, I can be found devouring a great novel at a public library, driving along Coast Highway, or lounging by the beach.
Jessica Loughman: English Teacher
Hello, my name is Ms. Loughman and I am very excited to be an English/Music Teacher at San Diego Virtual School for the 2015-2016 school year! I moved to San Diego from upstate New York where I received a Bachelor’s degree in English and Music and my Master’s of Science in Teaching from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. I have my teaching credentials in both English and Music, and love both subjects. My hobbies include singing, playing guitar, snowboarding, and doing yoga. I live in North Park with my two cats, and I am loving getting to know more about San Diego!
Ariana Metzker: English Teacher
My name is Ariana Metzker and I graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a Bachelor of Arts in English literature and psychology. I later went on to earn my master’s degree in English education in 2011. Although I loved teaching English in the traditional setting, I am extremely excited to be a part of San Diego Virtual School’s innovative program. The transition has afforded me the opportunity to provide more personalized guidance and customize each student’s learning plan. My husband and I recently relocated to San Diego to soak up the perfect weather, and we love to travel during our free time.

In my free time I enjoy hiking and exploring new restaurants with my husband who works at SDSU.
Kristi Cooley: English Teacher
Hi! My name is Ms. Cooley. This is my 1st year at San Diego Virtual School, and I am very excited to be working with this amazing faculty and staff to help our students achieve success. I have been teaching for six years working in middles school and high school. I earned my degree in secondary education with a major in English from The University of Nevada, Reno, and I am currently working on my Master’s in teaching and learning through Point Loma Nazarene University. I have two super ninja “babies” who are 4 and 5 1/2, they are my world, and you will probably see us at the zoo, beach, or going on an amazing hiking adventure! Looking forward to a great school year!
Joseph Ramirez: English Teacher
Hello, my name is Joseph Ramirez and I am excited to be your English teacher. I have taught English as a second language for several years, latin being one of the languages at SDSU, and have recently received my Masters of Education at UCSD. I have a passion for working with students at an individual level, and for showing them how powerful well articulated writing is and how relevant classical literature can be. In my free time I like to write and read philosophy and literature, though I also have a soft spot in my heart for movies, anime, and video games.
