MJ Commodore: English Teacher
Aloha! My name is MJ Commodore and I’m an English Teacher located at Temecula Learning Center. This is my 10th year teaching and 2nd year with SDVS. I’ve taught in myriad of settings from Department of Defense Dependent Schools to comprehensive middle & high schools. I firmly believe I am here to teach the “whole student,” and I, specifically, enjoy the one-on-one interactions with students and seeing them evolve academically as well as personally before my eyes. I have a Single Subject credential in English from California State University, San Marcos, and B.A. in English from University of Louisville. I live in Temecula with my husband, two children, and two Yorkie dogs. I am a self-proclaimed foodie who loves the experience of food from shopping and cooking to eating. In my spare time, I can be found devouring a great novel at a public library, driving along Coast Highway, or lounging by the beach.
Nicole Lincoln: English Teacher
Hi! My name is Mrs. Lincoln and I am so excited to be an English teacher at San Diego Virtual School. I studied English and Writing at UC Santa Barbara, then spent 5 years working in finance. I love the experience I gained working in the business world, but my passion lies in helping children.
I received a multiple subjects teaching credential, an English teaching credential, and a Masters degree in Education that I from National University and have been teaching at SDVS since 2012. My favorite part of teaching is being able to get to know the incredible students I meet so that I can motivate and encourage them to achieve their personal goals. I also enjoy working on specialized projects for our school to help us continually improve our processes.
When I am not teaching, I love to go to the beach, make photo albums on Shutterfly, spend time with my family, and eat Mexican food!
Jessica Loughman: English Teacher
Hello, my name is Ms. Loughman and I am very excited to be an English/Music Teacher at San Diego Virtual School for the 2015-2016 school year! I moved to San Diego from upstate New York where I received a Bachelor’s degree in English and Music and my Master’s of Science in Teaching from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. I have my teaching credentials in both English and Music, and love both subjects. My hobbies include singing, playing guitar, snowboarding, and doing yoga. I live in North Park with my two cats, and I am loving getting to know more about San Diego!
Ariel McCarter: English Teacher
Hello! My name is Ariel McCarter and this will be my first year at San Diego Virtual School as an English teacher at the Vista site. I have been working in schools and with a variety of students for the past four years, from the elementary level to high school, but I love working with middle and high school students! I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Maryland University College and went on to pursue my master’s degree in teaching secondary English at Brown University, where I earned a single subject credential in English. I love connecting with students based on their interests and tapping into the fun and creative sides of teaching, especially with English! My favorite aspects of teaching are making personal connections with students and the core of what I strive for as an educator is mutual respect and student autonomy.
When I’m not teaching, I’m geeking out over the latest seasons of my favorite shows, watching new movies, reading comics and graphic novels, or playing games. Fun fact: I have lived all over the United States, from Washington state to Rhode Island, and I even spent three years living overseas in Okinawa, Japan.
Ariana Metzker: English Teacher
My name is Ariana Metzker and I graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a Bachelor of Arts in English literature and psychology. I later went on to earn my master’s degree in English education in 2011. Although I loved teaching English in the traditional setting, I am extremely excited to be a part of San Diego Virtual School’s innovative program. The transition has afforded me the opportunity to provide more personalized guidance and customize each student’s learning plan. My husband and I recently relocated to San Diego to soak up the perfect weather, and we love to travel during our free time.
