Debbie Justeson: Math Teacher
My name is Debbie Justeson and I have been teaching since 1987. I began my career as a TA for a Montessori School, pursued my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, then moved on to Elementary Education. During the movement of changing Junior High Schools to Middle Schools, I switched venues and took a position as a Math/Science Teacher at a Middle School. In the meantime, I received my Masters Degree in Education from Long Beach State University, got married, moved to San Diego, then had a child.
Since then, I have taught math part-time at Grossmont and Cuyamaca Community Colleges, spoke at several State and National Conferences regarding Math Education, taught Math Education classes at San Diego State University, and became a Board Member for the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District, which I currently hold. In 2010, I joined San Diego Virtual School and am thoroughly enjoying my position working with students from Grades 6-12.
My husband and I continue to live in La Mesa with our two children. My daughter attends Helix High School and my son attends Magnolia Science Academy. We love hanging out with our kids, being a part of their lives while they live with us, and spending every penny we earn on them.
Ashton Perez: Math Teacher
Hello! My name is Ms. Perez. I am a math teacher here at SDVS. I am very excited to be a part of such an amazing team of teachers and staff. I am looking forward to contributing and seeing what this new school year holds! The best part about teaching is helping my students succeed and watching them transform as they conquer each new challenge. Aside from teaching I love being outdoors! Some of my favorite activities are playing basketball, hiking, and snorkeling! An interesting fact about me is I have 8 siblings!
Michelle Kajanus: Math Teacher
My name is Michelle Kajanus and I am a math teacher at San Diego Virtual School’s Chula Vista site. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in math from San Jose State University and hold a single subject teaching credential. Before obtaining my degree, I was a preschool teacher and math tutor in the Silicon Valley area where I also did my student teaching.
After a few years away, I’m glad to be back in Chula Vista where I now live with my husband. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy working in my garden and improving my gardening skills so all my fruit trees don’t die on me.
Carolyn Lemler: Math Teacher
My name is Carolyn Lemler. I am married and have two boys. One is heading off to UCSD and the other is just starting at Helix High School. I live in La Mesa. I am the onsite math teacher at the La Mesa center. I have been teaching for 27 years. I have a Multiple Subject credential with a supplemental in English and a passion for math. I also have my Master’s in Instructional Leadership. I started my career in teaching as a Math support teacher for San Diego Unified and quickly moved into a full time position teaching primary grades, including pilot programs and opening a new school. After having my first child, I decided to stay home with him for a few years. While at home, I began tutoring privately, and teaching some after school clubs. Eventually, I started substitute teaching and was offered another math support position at an elementary school. I joined San Diego Virtual in 2016. I am thrilled to be a part of the SDVS team. My favorite part of teaching has always been working with the students.
