Any student who meets our basic criteria and desires a virtual school experience can enroll with us. However, the majority of our student body falls into one of six categories: military families, advanced learners, struggling students, student athletes or performers, health-related distance learners, and students with jobs.
The benefits of online schooling are countless and far-reaching, and they will continue to serve your student well after he or she has graduated from SDVS. If your child falls into one of the categories mentioned, continue reading below to learn more about how we can help you and your family make the most of our virtual environment.
San Diego is home to a number of military installations and is a popular place of residence for many military members who serve our country in a nearby city. Whether you’re new to San Diego or have been in the area for a while, you know that the military life is very different and unique from the normal civilian life. When you have a service member in your family, your schedule is different on a day-to-day basis and your holidays, summer vacations, and weekly routines are very different than that of the average family. Here at SDVS, we understand that. We are proud to be an online school for military families and love supporting our troops by educating and encouraging their children in their academic pursuits. Family time is incredibly important in any family, but particularly among military families, it is cherished and often hard to come by. Your family has unique scheduling needs so that you can maximize your quality time together, and SDVS provides that.

Maybe you know that your child needs something different than traditional schooling, but you have been unsure about how to find something to suit him or her. Students with Jobs
Many students choose to work during their high school years, and some do so because they are helping to support their families. For many of these students, grades may suffer as a result of their jobs. At San Diego Virtual School, we understand and are here to help. Many of our students work full-time or part-time jobs and complete their schoolwork during their time off from work. They can work at their own pace and submit assignments at any time that is convenient, allowing them to both make a sustainable income and complete the requirements needed for graduation.
If you’ve chosen to utilize distance learning for your student for any reason, SDVS is an excellent option to ensure your student still gets the quality education he or she needs while also being as safe as possible. If your student has health concerns or issues with immunodeficiency, you may be wary about sending him to a traditional school, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
